Welcome to Global Medicine Hunter's Blog!
I'm probably the first medical anthropologist you ever met, and I predict we're going to have a long and happy relationship. Why? Because I search for healing remedies around the world, so you don't have to.
I wade through tough terrains, scale mountains, scrounge through snake-infested jungles in my quest to find natural medicine that really works. Each quest starts with a burning question, such as: Is there a cure for the common cold? Is there a cure for diabetes? Is there a natural sleeping potion that really works? And then I'm off on the search.
I search for sugar tamers in Madagascar and in South India, for fountains of youth with the Amla fruit in India or yogurt cultures in Kiev. Plus I report on amazing Qigong masters in Shanghai's research institutes. I've also looked at the health benefits of Japanese cultivated Red Reishi.
As a health expert, I'm continually asked about natural alternatives for drugs or herbs that lower cholesterol, help reverse heart disease, diabetes, obesity, arthritis and cancers I'm even asked about plants like maca or vitamins that make you sexy -- you name it! Newsweek and USA Today called me a health trendspotter. But I've been called worse.
Sometimes "medicine" comes in the form of a ritual or ceremony or healing frequency, and sometimes it's a botanical or herb. I find there are as many forms of healing on the planet as there are cultural traditions. It's an exciting time to be alive -- we get to sample from these healing traditions, safeguard their continued right to survive and thrive, and then blend the best into a form of integrative medicine that has the most potential for offering mind/body/spirit healing.
I'm also editor of AMERICAN FITNESS Magazine, so I'm asked about the best DVDs for yoga or programs for weight loss, the top secrets for anti-aging (hate that word, let's call it enhanced wisdom ), the top spas and resorts.
Stay strong, be adventurous!
And check out my website: www.megjordan.com and graduate school program, a Masters in Integrative Health Studies at California Institute of Integral Studies - http://www.ciis.edu/academics/ihl.html
Enjoy, Meg Jordan, PhD, RN
